Police spokesman Colonel Thembeka Mbele said a man was arrested after trying to flee the scene.
“A murder case has been opened to Bellair SAPS for investigation. It is alleged that on Monday at 5:10 pm two men booked into a lodge,” she said.
“An argument broke out and a 36-year-old man was shot in the body several times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Jumped out the window
A suspect, who was at the scene, reportedly saw police approaching the scene and tried to escape on foot by jumping out of the window. He was injured in the process.
Mbele said the man was arrested and taken to hospital under police surveillance.
Sources said the man was naked at the time, although this could not be confirmed at the time of publication.
The owners of the lodge confirmed to News24 that they were aware of the incident, but had no details.
The lodge offers “adult accommodation”, with rates for two-hour stays and short-term accommodation.
