The New South Wales Government today announced an extension to the Mascot Towers Accommodation Assistance Scheme following discussions this week with the Owners Corporation.

The extension of financial support for 12 months is contingent on the Owners Corporation filing the appropriate documentation with the Supreme Court to terminate the stratification program.

The NSW Government is also launching an inquiry into the conduct of the former town of Botany Bay in relation to Mascot Towers.

New South Wales Fair Trade Minister Eleni Petinos said the funding extension is subject to a strata scheme termination proceeding filed with the Supreme Court and that the New Wales government du Sud will receive relevant written updates in the coming days.

“I met with representatives of Mascot Towers Owners Corporation earlier this week and was advised that they will be filing papers to end their layup plan with the Supreme Court shortly,” Ms. Petinos said.

“Given this commitment, the government will extend housing finance support for the seventh time. The filing of documents with the Court was a condition previously imposed on the fifth and sixth extensions.

“Provided the necessary paperwork is filed with the Supreme Court and evidence is provided to the NSW Government of such action, the Government will continue to support the owners and extend its support again until June 30, 2023.”

Local Government Minister Wendy Tuckerman has also announced that the NSW Government is launching an investigation into the former town of Botany Bay under the Local Government Act 1993 over mascot rides.

“The purpose of this investigation is to focus on the role played by the former town of Botany Bay and to shed light on any information it may reveal to prevent a similar situation from happening in the future” , Ms. Tuckerman said.

“We are advised that relevant Council documents from this period cannot be located and may be missing. We are committed to gathering as much information as possible about the issues that led to the Mascot Towers defects.
